Are Heat and Health Issues Holding Your Herd Back?

Heat Sensitivity and Climate Limitations

Black cattle are susceptible to heat stress and can develop hoof rot from standing in water.

Wagyu are more heat tolerant than European breeds and so White Wagyu are even more heat tolerant than the Japanese Black Wagyu. Therefore White Wagyu can tolerate hot areas around the equator.

Increased Fly Attraction and Health Risks

Black hides attract more flies leading to higher incidence of pink eye and other fly-borne diseases

Your Expert Guide to White Wagyu Genetics and Sustainable Breeding.

I grew up in a small Minnesota town and would visit my uncles and my grandfather’s dairy farms with just enough exposure to whet my appetite for rural life, rather than getting burnt out on the long hours like my cousins.

My interest in Wagyu was peaked in 1965 when I saw a French documentary called Mondo Cane showing a segment on Black Japanese cattle that were massaged and fed beer.  Their steaks had fantastic marbling!

In Minnesota our ranching slowly increased and we had a historic breed of tri-purpose Gloucester Lineback Cattle and were milking 5 a day but, other than the fine butter, we were just working for the Tamworth hogs who got the most benefit by drinking the milk.

In 2003 we moved the farm to Missouri and in 2007 I finally got some embryos and I became a Wagyu rancher to realize my dream of age 16.

The Story of White Wagyu: A Rare and Remarkable Wagyu

The White Wagyu Story had its birth when I purchased the Grand Champion Red/Black Heifer at the Denver show in 2016. GVW Michifuku 93014 was the first Blonde Wagyu I had ever seen and it was love at first sight! She was an embryo calf born from the Red Wagyu bull, SOR Unzen, and a Black Wagyu dam GVW Michifuku 220-12 owned by Jack Cossette of Gypsum Valley Wagyu. I nicknamed the heifer “Gypsy”.
